random things: pot and polar bears*

this author's experience leans to the fact that marijuana is pretty much legalized for anyone over 18 in california with no harmful consequences. but, then again there's all those people in jail.

legislatures are looking to hire a few good scientists to buy research "to undermine the public perception of a widespread consensus among polar bear researchers that warming global temperatures and melting Arctic ice threaten the polar bears' survival." i'm not making this up; they said it: "We want to have the money to hire scientists to answer the Interior (Department) scientists." [emphasis mine.]

* i have no idea hwo these things go together or how they even caught my eye today.
