pop music

the latest news, for anyone who might care [i don't] is that George Michael has said farewell to the world of pop music. his reasoning is that 'nobody wants to hear about politics, or any kind of strong ideas in pop any more.'

it is true, we don't have music with a message anymore. remember songs like Blowin' in the Wind (Bob Dylan ), Revolution (Beatles), Fortunate Son (Creedence Clearwater Revival), Say it loud, I’m black and I’m proud (James Brown), Gimme Shelter (Rolling Stones), and I Shot the Sheriff (Bob Marley)? even Fast Car (Tracy Chapman) and Keep Ya Head Up (Tupac).

sure, there may be a song every now and then with a message, but we have lost it as a whole. granted, many of the songs of the 60s protested war and demonstrated the general social unrest at the time. but do we still not have war? social unrest? where's the message?
