i learned from this site that wikipedia has a list of Very Special Episode plots from the 80s. ah, remember those? take a look, it will bring back memories.
thinking about those very special episodes made me also remember the after school special. via wikipedia, i found out what happened to after school specials :
'the popularity of syndicated talk shows (especially The Oprah Winfrey Show) airing in the same time slots had made the after school special unprofitable. A more realistic treatment of teenage issues in movies and prime time television of the 1990s is also cited as ending the era of after school specials.'
that makes sense.
