this is a neat story

for the front page of the paper. certainly better than something about homicide or war.

Former sailor takes responsibility for $1 debt, 60 years later

The sailor was annoyed to find a parking ticket tucked under the windshield of his 1935 Ford Coupe, the one with the rumble seat, after taking his wife to the theater.

But a debt is a debt. William D. Fogarty, a Connecticut native who was stationed in Norfolk in 1946, headed to the post office and purchased a money order for the $1 fine, payable to the city police.

Fogarty put the money order in his wallet. And then he forgot all about it.

Until now.
