1,000 colleges still do it

an article from the pilot today says that fewer colleges are printing yearbooks, referencing the decision this year for UVA to not print a yearbook. those quoted in the article cite social networking sites such as facebook as a reason for the decrease in student interest in obtaining a yearbook.

i've been in college for quite some time and it has never occurred to me to buy a yearbook [though ODU no longer prints one either]. in a school of 20,000, how are those featured in a yearbook going to mean anything to me? my two cents: the colleges need that money for other things. let the students use facebook.
