UCR data for 2007 shows that both violent and property crime decreased last year. also, drug arrests are up. for marijuana, 2007 marked the the largest number of arrests in one year ever recorded. the number of arrests for marijuana "far exceeded the total number of arrests in the U.S. for all violent crimes combined, including murder, manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault."
for extra emphasis, the report shows that places with lower incarceration rates had greater crime reductions.
